If you’re still unable to connect to the network, confirm your phone is compatible. Compatibility can vary by manufacturer, model, and software. Use our device compatibility tool to confirm your phone is compatible.

If your device is compatible but you are still unable to connect to the network, the additional troubleshooting steps below may help.

Network Selection

Losing connection to the network is shown on your phone as zero bars of signal, and it may even say "No Service" or "SOS".

If this is the first time you've tried to use the phone in a specific area, there may be factors preventing the signal from reaching you. For example, basements, high rises, and large industrial buildings can be difficult to reach.

If you previously had good network connection in the same area, you may be able to reconnect to the Freedom Mobile network by following the steps below:

Important: If you manually connect to the Freedom Mobile network using advanced settings, please re-enable automatic network selection to avoid service disruptions and automatically connection in the future.

Alternatives During a Voice Service Outage

If a voice service outage is confirmed for your location, there are a few things you can try:

  1. Try using non-voice channels, such as messaging or social media. These applications may continue to work even when voice calling does not.

  2. Wi-Fi calling allows Freedom Mobile customers on select iPhone and Android devices to make and receive calls, and send text, picture and video messages over a Wi-Fi connection. In addition to your Wi-Fi networks at home or work, with Freedom WiFi, you can also have access to Wi-Fi hotspots at indoor and outdoor locations across Western Canada.

  3. If you are unable to use voice-over-Wi-Fi services or mobile data, contact us using a device with a hard-wired connection to the internet.

Emergency Services During a Voice Service Outage

The Canadian Radio-television and Telecommunications Commission mandates that all network providers must allow for 9-1-1 services — no matter whether you subscribe to their services or not. If your Freedom Mobile services are interrupted, it’s likely that you will still get emergency coverage from your phone.
