About: VoLTE

Overview

VoLTE changes the way that voice calls are carried on the mobile network. Instead of switching back to 3G to make calls, devices stay connected to the LTE network for a superior voice and data experience. The benefits of VoLTE include improved call quality, quicker call setup times, and the ability to use LTE data during a call.

If your device supports VoLTE Roaming, you can enjoy all the benefits of Voice over LTE (VoLTE), while you’re travelling.

As telecommunications providers in Canada and globally, phase out 3G networks, your service may be impacted if your device does not support VoLTE and VoLTE roaming. You may be impacted if you’re located in the province of Quebec, Ottawa, and its surrounding areas or if you are travelling to a destination without 3G network availability. VoLTE Roaming and Wi-Fi Calling

VoLTE Roaming works differently with Wi-Fi calling than VoLTE. With VoLTE Roaming, a call that begins on Wi-Fi will drop if the Wi-Fi connection is lost and you will be required to begin a new call on VoLTE Roaming.

This allows you to be in full control of your spending when making VoLTE Roaming calls, as the calls will either count towards your plan’s roaming voice allotment or be charged on a Pay-Per-Use (PPU) basis.

Important: A call that begins on VoLTE but connects to Wi-Fi calling will result in you incurring roaming rates for the entire duration of the call.

Troubleshooting Call Issues

Our Extended Range LTE network reaches further and penetrates deeper into buildings than our 3G network. However, phones without Voice over LTE switch over to our 3G network to make calls. That means, in areas where Extended Range LTE is available but no 3G signal, you will be unable to make a call.
