About: Data Caps

Overview

Data caps aim to prevent Postpaid customers from incurring unwanted data overages by limiting data spending while travelling or using plans that do not include data.

At Freedom Mobile, there are two types of data caps:

  • Nationwide (International/National/USA)

  • Freedom (on the Freedom Mobile network)

Data Roaming Cap

If you are travelling to a National (Nationwide) or International (incl. the US) destination, you have the potential to incur data charges for services outside of those covered by your plan or Add-On.

To completely avoid data roaming charges, your best option is to turn off Data Roaming directly from your mobile phone. You also have the option to disable roaming by turning off National Roaming, US Roaming & International Roaming in My Account.

If, however, you decide to maintain your access to roaming data you will be charged based on the rate of the destination you are visiting, up to the limit of the Data Roaming Cap.

Your maximum chargeable amount when using data outside of your plan and Add-On inclusion while roaming is $100 per line to a maximum of $100 on your account. Upon reaching your Data Roaming Cap your access to data will be automatically restricted.

Freedom Data Caps

You also have the potential to incur data charges on the Freedom network for using the service on a plan or Add-On that does not include data.

To completely avoid data charges, your best option is to turn off Cellular directly from your mobile phone. 

If you decide to maintain your access to data on the Freedom network you will be charged based on the data rate associated with your plan, up to the limit of the Freedom Data Cap.

Your maximum chargeable amount when using Freedom data outside of your plan and Add-On inclusion to a maximum of $50 on your account. Upon reaching your Freedom Data Cap you will retain access to data and will be able to continue using data at no additional cost (Fair Usage Policy applies).

Important: Freedom Data Caps do not apply to Prepaid Customers.

Managing Data Caps

At the time of purchase all accounts are automatically opted into the data caps. To opt-out of the data roaming cap, you may do so for any given bill cycle directly through your My Account.

Take the following steps to manage your data roaming cap:

  1. Login to My Account

  2. Navigate to the Usage Details section

  3. Scroll down to Manage Data Roaming Cap

  4. To opt-out of the Data Roaming Cap select the check box to agree to opt-out of the data roaming cap, and click the button Disable Data Roaming Cap.

Important: If you choose to opt out of the Data Roaming Cap there are no additional safeguards or notifications. All charges associated with exceeding the $100 data roaming cap are your responsibility. The Data Roaming Cap will be restored at the beginning of your next bill cycle.

Data Roaming Cap Notifications

As the Account Holder you will be informed via text and email if:

  • A number on your account starts roaming in an international destination,

  • The roaming cap is reached, or

  • The roaming cap is turned off.

As an Authorized User or Device User you will be informed via text if:

  • Your line starts roaming in an international destination,

  • The roaming cap is reached, or

  • The roaming cap is turned off.
